Kiezsalon w/ Booker Stardrum, GUO & Northwest / Wednesday, 24.06.2020
We cordially invite you to Kiezsalon’s June edition with the Berlin premiere of US drummer Booker Stardrum, avant-garde duo GUO on Mute Records and experimental-pop duo Northwest.
Booker Stardrum is a Los Angeles-based performer-composer. Using integrative sampler technology, Booker’s live solo set seamlessly synthesizes acoustic and electronic sounds, with deconstructed and reimagined recorded samples and other collected sonic ephemera. A longtime touring and recording member of NYC bands Cloud Becomes Your Hand, Landlady and VaVatican, Booker has also performed and toured with Lee Ranaldo, Weyes Blood, Nels Cline, playwright and theatre director Young Jean Lee, and more.
GUO is a multidisciplinary duo formed of London’s Daniel Blumberg and Seymour Wright. Their latest release in an ongoing series ‘GUO4’ – out via Mute – features Crystabel Riley on drums and is a collaboration with filmmaker Peter Strickland.
Northwest are an experimental-pop duo based in London, formed by Spanish multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer Ignacio Simón and visual artist, producer and singer Mariuca García-Lomas. Their music explores different genres, from contemporary classical music and avant-garde electronica to experimental pop, psychedelia and trip-hop.
Since 2015 the Kiezsalon has offered a forum for innovative musical activity beyond genre boundaries. As an interface between avant-garde, advanced pop music and interdisciplinary art, the series presents compact performances by artists of diverse genres, origin and status. Initiated by Digital in Berlin and based at one of the last authentic locations in Berlin – the 120-year-old Musikbrauerei. Following 5 exciting years, the Kiezsalon has established itself as one of the most popular and successful series in Berlin, so far hosting more than 100 acts from 32 countries.
