Gondwana, Sonicpanic, Crocanti, Kazuhisa Uchihashi & Zeena Parkins at NK Berlin / Friday, 19.12.2014

Andrea Taeggi aka Gondwana is an Italian musician residing in Berlin. After graduating from the Conservatory of Amsterdam, where he had the chance to deepen his experience in acoustic improvised music working with a variety of ensembles of the lively Dutch improv scene (using prepared piano, percussion, a.o.) he delved into electronic music ranging from research sound design to post-dance floor.

Nowadays he’s part of the duo Lumisokea which released 6 records. He toured extensively in Europe, and also in North and South America. He just started Gondwana, his new solo project whose debut record release is expected in late October on UK label Opal Tapes. His music can be described as sculptural, tactile, meditative, bodily, using improvisation during his live shows. He’s interested in working with all sorts of lesser known instruments from the past as an inspirational basis for composing and sound sculpting.

Sonicpanic presents a set of experimental sounds-scapes using a combination of acoustic, analogue and digital instruments. This project began in Berlin in the early 90′s as part of a live set performance collective working together with guest musicians or as a solo project.

The installation set up consists of various sound modules and instruments linked together to produce improvised sound sequences which occasionally border on music. Sets blur the lines of performance and installation as very little preconceived song structure is applied to the presentation which is dependant on time, space and location.

CROCANTI is a solo project by Martí Guillem Císcar, based on the research of sounds in electronic devices, toys, and retro stuff, developing personal interfaces with the art of circuit bending, which are his own way of playing music, based on noises, randomness and live-performance. Most of the elements are recycled or reused and also some d.i.y. instruments are often used, mixing them to generate a concrete audiovisual experience.

Multi-instrumentalist/composer/improviser, Zeena Parkins, pioneer of contemporary harp practice and performance, reimagines the instrument as a “sound machine of limitless capacity.” Parkins has built three versions of her one-of-a-kind electric harp and has extended the language of the acoustic harp with the inventive use of unusual playing techniques, preparations, and layers of electronic processing.

Parkins’s compositions have been commissioned by Nextworks Ensemble, Merce Cunningham Dance Company, the Eclipse Quartet, William Winant, Bang on a can, the Whitney Museum, the Tate Modern, and many more.

Kazuhisa Uchihashi is a composer, electric guitar and daxophone player and music producer. He was born in Osaka, Japan, in 1959. Plays guitar since his twelfth year. Since 1983 he has devoted himself intensively to free improvised music. He experimented thouroughly with many different kinds of machines and sound-devices to expand the expression possibilities of the electric guitar. He also composed music for films, theatre plays, and dance.
