One event to make good use of the former Templehof Airport, Berlin Festival again boasts an impressive lineup this time. One of the many highlights includes a live performance by Icelandic post-rockers Sigur Ros.
The programme also includes such attractions as Orbital, Major Lazer, The Brandt Brauer Frick Ensemble, Mostly Robot and Modeselektor.
Sigur Rós (Icelandic pronunciation: [ˈsɪːɣʏr ˈroːus] is an Icelandic band active since 1994. Known for its ethereal sound, frontman Jónsi Birgisson’s falsetto vocals, and the use of bowed guitar, the band’s music is also noticeable for its incorporation of classical and minimalist aesthetic elements into their music. The band was named after Birgisson’s sister Sigurrós.

Orbital are a British electronic dance music duo from Sevenoaks, England consisting of brothers Phil and Paul Hartnoll. Their career initially ran from 1989 until 2004, but in 2009 they announced that they would be reforming and headlining The Big Chill, in addition to a number of other live shows in 2009.

The band’s name was taken from Greater London’s orbital motorway, the M25, which was central to the early rave scene and party network in the South East during the early days ofacid house. Orbital were both critically and commercially successful, and known particularly for their element of liveimprovisation during shows, a rarity among techno acts.
