The concert-series AGGREGATE is about the interaction of human and machine. With gamut inc, Marion Wörle and Maciej Sledziecki have developed several music machines and composition methods in the last years. Aggregate confronts human performers with the machine performers. Each evening will focus on a different state of matter.
This liquid aggregation saw the interaction between gamut inc with Hilary Jeffery. gamut inc was found 2011 by Marion Wörle and Maciej Sledziecki, to explore the intersection of electronic and instrumental music. Hilary Jeffery has been working as a musician since the early ’90s and describes himself as a “desert trombonist” after his journey to the Sahara in 1990, accompanied by a trombone.
Gamut inc is based in Berlin, and their debut album will be released autumn 2014. It is dedicated to ancient sound pioneers like the jesuit Athansius Kircher, using his composition techniques to create contemporary music. The musical focus lies in sonic textures, on the edge between noisy drones and harmonic patterns.
Hilary believes that the sense of silent-space experienced during this desert journey is a central and sustaining influence for his music. As a musician he aims to share this experience, creating inner-space for listeners and fellow musicians to explore.
Over the past twenty years Hilary has proven his ability to cross between different styles and areas of music including rock, techno, electronica, jazz, pop, afrobeat, contemporary classical and free improvisation. Groups he has played with between 1994 and 2014 include: Germ, Sand, Meta-Orchestra, Kreepa, Paul Dunmall Octet, Band of Holy Joy, Apa Ini, The Barton Workshop, Jimi Tenor Big Band, Jimi Tenor + Kabu Kabu, Lysn, The Mount Fuji Doomjazz Corporation, Zeitkratzer, CC Hennix and The Chora(s)san Time-Court Mirage, Zinc & Copper, Polyversal Souls.
