The Pressure nights are always exceptional. Producer legends and celebrated newcomers on stage, a wild clash of genres that shakes the air and guests who fly in from all over Europe.
Finally, Ninja Tune veteran The Bug is inviting guest DJs back to Gretchen and we’re setting up his massive sound system. With Shackelton, Pole and Gorgonn, three more representatives of experimental bass music culture are in the line-up this time.
Shackelton is more of an experimental composer than a producer of dancefloor tracks. That’s exactly why you simply have to let yourself be shaken by his hypnotic and psychedelic industrial sounds.
The Düsseldorf musician and producer Pole, an architect of abstract electronic sound structures, has pushed the boundaries of electronica enormously with his albums and has enriched dub and bass music in a lasting way.
Building on 20 years of sound engineering knowledge, Gorgonn constructs a massive neo-dub sound that he himself calls Sci-Fi Steppas: A combination of deep industrial dub, noise, techno and no wave. His album Six Paths was released at the end of January and is an excellent distorted fusion of industrial and bass intensity.
The Bug will be performing alongside Flowdan. With a career that’s spanned the best part of two decades, Flowdan is one of the most easily recognisable characters in British urban music. A certified cult figure, the East London MC has had a career which has ran the entire timeline of grime and beyond.
The Bug will also perform with Dis Fig. Together with the New Jersey-born and now Berlin-based musician, he produced the album “In Blue”. “In Blue” is carried by a dub-techno texture that steadily perfects itself over 12 tracks into a maelstrom-like tunnel sound. By the way: They shot the video for the track “You” at Gretchen.
