D/B Presents: Teenitus Festival @ Various Locations Berlin | Wednesday, 29.05. - Friday, 31.05.2013
Fusing noise, literature and visual delinquencies, TEENITUS is designed for people who appreciate challenging ideas produced and enjoyed beyond the realms of mainstream culture.

Staged in Erfurt for the first time in 2010 and then again in 2012 the festival will see its first Berlin edition in 2013 including some of Kreuzbergs finest underground venues, with artists as diverse as Mouse On Mars, Dirty Beaches, Palais Schaumburg, Station 17, Jan Jelinek and Zebra Katz (and many more).

Mouse On Mars | They Know Your Name
httpv://https://youtube.com/watch?v=DhA34L5y0nc

Mouse on Mars is one of the few electronic bands to stand the test of time. Constantly reinventing themselves, they have taken electronica to new heights with a unique blend of sound annihilation, fragmented melodies and an impassioned hatred of conformity.

For nearly two deacades, Andi Toma and Jan St. Werner have been sweating over burning consoles to create a new musical language, only to twist it again into thousands of myriad distortions.

Jan Jelinek & Masayoshi Fujita | I’ll Change Your Life
httpv://https://youtube.com/watch?v=yI6ONFTO7L0

Jan Jelinek can easily be described as one of Berlins most interesting pioneers of electronic music. His career is a continuous metamorphosis of identities, concepts and styles making it extremely exciting to follow his prolific output under monikers such as Farben, Gramm, Ursula Bogner or his own name. Whereas Jelinek oftentimes works with a wide array of soundcolors and loops sampled from varying sources vibraphonist Masayoshi Fujita has dedicated his focus on one instrument only.

Determined not to stick to traditional vibraphone techniques though, he started to prepare his instrument with pieces of metal, strips of foil and similar objects to expand its spectrum without eroding the instrument’s intrinsic character. In 2010 both artist teamed up for „Bird, Lake, Objekts“ which was released on Jelineks own label Faitiche. Their follow up „Do you know Otahiti?“ was released in March 2013.

Farahnaz Hatam | Water-bubble Theremin
httpv://https://youtube.com/watch?v=Zhx87UiPhyM

Born in Iran Farahnaz Hatam emigrated to the US, received a BA in Molecular biology and later an MFA in NYC in installation art. She has been living in Berlin since 10 years now working as an experimental musician and curator of concerts, artist talks and installations at NK Projekt in Neukölln which she co-founded.

For her music performances Farahnaz Hatam uses Supercollider, an environment and programming language for real time audio synthesis and algorithmic composition.

Palais Schaumburg | Kinder der Tod
httpv://https://youtube.com/watch?v=KGnBgsplaTc

Palais Schaumburg was originally formed in 1980, featuring Timo Blunck, Holger Hiller, Thomas Fehlmann and percussionist F. M. Einheit. The later left the group, eventually to join Einstürzende Neubauten and was replaced by Ralf Hertwig prior to Palais Schaumburg’s first full length album Palais Schaumburg which was released in 1981.

Moving playfully between the Neue Deutsche Welle, Funk, Avantgarde and Dada the album has been a major influence for many bands to follow and we are very proud to welcome Palais Schaumburg to this years Teenitus in the original line up of their first LP.

White Fence | It will never be
httpv://https://youtube.com/watch?v=drfIG6pe0K4

White Fence is Tim presley’s stunning solo project, Tim used to play with Darker my love, the Strange Boys and with The Fall. 2012 was quite a success for the Band, a split release with garage rock titan Ty Segall via Drag City, a sold out LP via Woodsist and a big Euro-Tour in Winter 2012.

This year White Fence are coming back to play several Festivals like Immergut, Primavera Sound, Kilbi and of course Teenitus.

Felix Kubin | Die kulturelle revolution
httpv://https://youtube.com/watch?v=Hq3djnuaBek

Felix Kubin, messenger of exploding lungs, lives and works against gravitation. At the age of 12 he started composing electronic 4-track music. His activities comprise futurist pop, electroacoustic and chamber orchestra music, radio plays, lectures, workshops and his label Gagarin Records.

He has been involved with the noise project Klangkrieg, the communist singing group Liedertafel Margot Honecker and the tetchy teenage bands Die Egozentrischen 2 and x2. Recently, he works a lot with the ensemble Integrales.

Night Beats | Shadows in the Night
httpv://https://youtube.com/watch?v=Zw9Jkcbpq4M

Any number of bands cite 60’s Texas psych as an influence, butrarely does a group actually capture what made those bands special. Following their debut EP on Trouble In Mind, The Night Beats have expanded on the bedroom immediacy of their first recordings to create an LP that perfectly captures and modernizes the hallucinogenic and exhilaratingly demonic aura of bands like The 13th Floor Elevators and Golden Dawn.

With blazing guitar work and a razor sharp rhythm section Danny Lee Blackwell and company mutate conventional chords & progressions into a mind-blowing sonic sprawl.

UV Glaze | Live at Kastanienkeller
httpv://https://youtube.com/watch?v=CeDj47j2zc8

UV Glaze is a Berlin based fuck you, fastcore noise punk Monster including members of Herpes, Jailhouse Fuck and Wolfgangs Vacation. 20 Songs in 20 Minutes, a roundtrip ticket to hell, REALLY GOOD!

Alex Zhang Hungtai, aka Dirty Beaches, started off as a one man band in 2005 in Montreal. A trans- pacific nomad and genre hopping sound smith, his past releases include drone instrumentals, film scores and a fascination with dissecting popular american music.

Dirty Beaches | True Blue
httpv://https://youtube.com/watch?v=rTch7g_gkfU

He fuses blues, rockabilly, soul, RNB, and hip hop, often rendering them to the point where its no longer recognizable. On May 21st his new 2LP called „Drifters/Love Is the Devil“ will be released on Zoo Music.

Zebra Katz is the capstone creation of 25 year old New York multidisciplinary artist Ojay Morgan. Inspired by Nina Simone, Andre 3000, Missy Elliot, James Blake, and Lauryn Hill, Morgan has cultivated a signature and unique presence all his own.

Zebra Katz x Njena Redd Foxx | Ina Read
httpv://https://youtube.com/watch?v=mEiXsUiVZ34

Having shared the stage with artists from Diplo to The Scissor Sisters, Lana Del Ray and Azealia Banks, his lives shows are not to be missed, and have been enjoyed by audiences worldwide. For Teenitus Zebra Katz will be accompanied by NYC rapper Njena Redd Foxx who is about to come out with her first solo release this year.

DAWN HUNGER is a new project from Fuck Buttons’ Andrew Hung. With DAWN HUNGER, Andrew heads down a new Svengali-like path, where he writes, records and produces music and then collaborates with a series of new musicians. To begin this infinite electronic odyssey, DAWN HUNGER is interpreted and performed live by Claire Inglis and Matthew de Pulford.

Dawn Hunger | Billowed Wind
httpv://https://youtube.com/watch?v=JrTMAbpkxxk

Throughout this collaborative process we see the generation of identity; an interpretation of self. Actions become objects and being gives way to a newfound sense of soul. This is music that is both turbulent and disconcerting.

Bereft of excess; jagged components are given space to breathe and move, attracting each other into unsettling frenzy. Groove is redefined by unhinged yet locked drums. The female voice screeches and wails to disturb, and compel in equal measures.

Station 17 | Es ist so wie es ist
httpv://https://youtube.com/watch?v=yvx5MkvwcBE

Station 17 is a project founded in 1988 in Hamburg and is made up of handicapped and non handicapped musicians. Even though the plan was to only produce one album initially the band is still going strong and over the years has worked with many notable producers such as Holger Czukay from Can, FM Einheit from Einstürzende Neubauten, Thomas Fehlmann from Palais Schaumburg as well as DJ Koze.

Starting out as somewhat of an outsider version of the Hamburger Schule the band soon started following the footsteps of Kraftwerk, Neu! and Can pounding out their very own version of what Krautrock can be: “It’s all about the individual artists and how the group can use the individual strenghts of each member. We are a heterogenic group – we differ in our tastes or ideas. This gives rise to a variety of acoustic colours and hues impossible to find in any other band.”

Jonathan Toubin | SOUL CLAP & DANCE-OFF
httpv://https://youtube.com/watch?v=6QwdT3L5ZQU

Jonathan Toubin ́s Soul Clap & Dance-Off is North America’s most popular soul party – by far. The concept is simple-all night dancing to the wild soul 45s of subterranean superstar DJ Mr. Jonathan Toubin and in the middle, a 50€ dance contest judged by a community panel made up of local celebrities.

Now who would fit the spirit of Teenitus better than Wenzel Storch? Director of cult movies such as „Sommer der Liebe“ and „Reise ins Glück“, enfant terrible, author and overall genius, Wenzel Storch will present a rare multimedia reading from of his latest book „Das ist die Liebe der Prälaten“.
