Sinularia and Ganna at West Germany / Saturday, 10.2.2024

As Sinularia, Jo Wespel (git/comp), Felix Henkelhausen (b) and Max Santner (dr) combine IDM, Jazz, Electronica with rhythmic concepts from 20th century New Music and Carnatic Music to a new, futuristic, real utopian music for the 21th century.

In the end they call it Subwater Beats, a positive, intense, floating, fat, humorous, emotional, fluid, most diverse fields of sense affecting, rich, hopefully not boring but heartening, new insights containing, speculative, eventful, moving, multi-textured, vulnerable, postcontemporary, challenging, creative and fun music.

Ganna unfolds her various cultural roots in her music. In her multinational ethno-jazz quintet GANNA and in her solo program for loops and electronics, she combines Ukrainian folklore with jazz, improvised and experimental music. Inspired by folklore research trips to various regions of Ukraine, Ganna is actively committed to spreading the cultural heritage of Ukraine internationally.

Ganna Gryniva is a singer and composer from Berlin. She emigrated from Ukraine to Germany with her parents in 2002. Today, Ganna is considered “one of the most impressive singers and musicians on the European jazz and world music scene” (Mirjam Jessa, Ö1 Radio, Austria).

The last album HOME by her ethno-jazz quintet was released in November 2022 on BERTHOLD records and was celebrated by the music press as “Album of the Year” (Ulrich Habersetzer, DLF Kultur) and “Jazz Highlight of the Year” (Roland Spiegel, Bayerischer Rundfunk).
