Mt. Eerie is the current incarnation of enigmatic sound wizard, nature philosopher, neo-beat, radical feminist, Pacific Northwest Shredder/legend Phil Elverum.

He makes consistently mesmerizing bold work outside any particular genre and does so with an unaffected sense of humor that is rare in most artists.

As a live band, the Mount Eerie project takes many forms, is always changing. For this 2013 tour Mount Eerie will be primarily women singing and playing distorted bass.

Layers of interlocking vocals, dense with words and harmonies, resting on top of a foundation of Mount Eerie songs, create an atmosphere of dense foggy wild confusion with occasional cutting clarity.

Mountains’ music is defined by slow builds, and subtle transformations, textures and melodic lines that evolve in a variety of ways to create grand soundscapes and acutely detailed compositions.

While the current trend in experimental music is towards hyper-prolificity, Mountains have taken their time on the recent Centralia, resulting in an album that is as precise as it is boundless.

Holtkamp and Anderegg approached the album layer by layer, throughout much of the record combining purely-acoustic recordings with purely-electronic sounds rather than using electronics to manipulate acoustic source material.

Guitar, cello, organs, electric piano etal are seamlessly combined with modular electronics, synthesizers and other sound sources.

The result is a fully engrossing listen, always shifting focus between acoustic instruments, processed instruments and electronic sound.
