D/B Recommended: Matthew Dear (Live) @ Berghain Berlin | 01.12.2010

Matthew Dear, backed up by his live band, will present his latest album, Black City, today at the Kantine am Berghain.

[audio:Matthew Dear – i_know_howser.mp3]Released in August, Black City (Ghostly International) is the fourth album from this american music producer/dj (following the acclaimed Asa Breed).

It’s a nocturnal vision of electronic funk, in the vein of late ’70 Eno/Bowie productions/early new wave: layered, slightly altered vocals, hypnotic patterns, liquid synths. Call it a retro-vision of the future, if you like.

Black City can be something to dance to, but it can also be a perfect album for those expensive headphones you’ve just bought, given the huge amount of little details in the mix.

By the way, this is the only German date for this tour, don’t miss it…
