Madlib’s African adventure: the Medicine Show part 3

Californian beat magician Madlib has delivered his new concept album ‘Beatkonducta in Africa’, part three of the Medicine Show.
[audio:madlib-bkafrica-frontline.mp3] His reworkings of Indian Bollywood sounds, Brazilian beats and Blue Note jazz classics were pure listening pleasure. This time around, his musical travels have taken him to the motherland of all beats – Africa.

Listen to this and you can imagine yourself strolling down a street in Lagos, stopping off in a packed little bar where the  bartender is playing the finest in Afrobeat and tribal sounds on his beaten-up turntable. The next thing you know, Madlib steps into the place with his MPC and sound equipment to add even more drums and experimental sounds to the mix.

That’s what it sounds like and that’s how we like it. ‘Madlib in Africa’ will be released March 23. It is the third installment of the producer’s “one release a month” music series for 2010.
