A maverick new musical pairing to behold and relish: inventive and globetrotting percussionist/composer Lukas Ligeti and Danish multiinstrumentalist/song sculptor Anders Lauge Meldgaard aka Frisk Frugt.
They are letting their kaleidoscopic imaginations collide for a short burst of duo shows.
This is a brand new collaboration that will find these two singular soundcrafters unlocking the gate to uncharted sonic realms, informed by their shared interest in forging compositional platforms for freewheeling, transcendental improv…their shared path often informed by previous musical journeys undertaken in and around Africa.

The music of globetrotting Austrian-born, New York-based composer and improvisor Lukas Ligeti fits into no genre.
Instead of questioning boundaries, he has simply ignored them – starting long before it became fashionable to do so. The result is something entirely new and fresh, the outsider art of an original.

One of the only experimental musicians to work repeatedly in Africa, his adventures on that continent began nearly 20 years ago in the Ivory Coast and have continued in Burkina Faso, where he co-founded the band Burkina Electric, as well as in many other parts of the continent, such as Uganda or South Africa, where he currently spends several months a year.
On the drums or on electronics playing the rare Don Buchla-designed marimba lumina, he brings his world of multiple simultaneous rhythms into the realms of improvisation, jazz, and new classical composition – but always with movement and dance in mind.

He has brought his unusual sense of melody and unique timbral combinations to compositions for the Bang On A Can All Stars, Kronos Quartet, Ensemble Modern, and American Composers Orchestra; as a drummer, he has shared the stage with the likes of John Zorn, Michael Manring, Gary Lucas, Jim O’Rourke, and John Tchicai. Lukas’ music is based on fantasy: there is no tried and true method, no recipe. Anything and everything is possible: expect the unexpected.
Frisk Frugt – Danish for “fresh fruit” – is the work of Anders Lauge Meldgaard, a native of Aalborg, DK, currently dwelling in Berlin. A multi-instrumentalist who loads up his optimist’s dinghy full of saxophones, self-made mechanical instruments and other inspired sound gadgets, Frisk Frugt sets sail on music’s diverse waves of opportunity.

His imagination is boundless and his music follows … live, whether it’s skeletal folk with toy parrots, minimalist church organ recitals, free jazz firestorms or ensemble shows alive with percussive possibilities, he stretches and tweaks his open source music into thrilling new shapes, always with a sense of wonder and spontaneous relish.
His album Dansktoppen møder Burkina Faso i det himmelblå rum hvor solen bor, suite, released in late 2012 by UK label Exotic Pylon, was heavily informed by a long musical journey of discovery around the great West African countries of Mali and Burkina Faso, armed with a taperecorder and a workbook.

African melody, rhythms and ritual dance meld into pop chaos and elegiac homespun folksong and poetry.
Thus far this year Frisk Frugt toured across Europe with like-minded border-busting acts including A Hawk and A Hacksaw, Konono No.1 and Awesome Tapes From Africa.
