Gaëlle Rouard: “M…H” – film premiere at ausland / Thursday, 17.11.2016

French filmmaker Gaëlle Rouard is an alchemist specialised in the film editing process: she develops different methods on how to chemically process film into a completely new artwork. At the same time she experiments with new possibilities in live multi-projection. Her films are barred from solid structures: they all have a dark and mysterious atmosphere.

Hailing from Geneva, Rouard first developed an interest in the photographic image before she switched to the medium film. She worked with found footage, superimposing it on the optical printer and editing it, until she had finished a work of unique beauty by herself.

Starting with this, she developed a special kind of screening technique. Working with two or more projectors and projecting her films through prisms and coloured glasses, she creates sensations of lights and images that fill the screening-space all over. Each screening is realized as an individual, unrepeatable live performance.

The filmmaker says: „There are endless possibilities how images can relate to each other. I let these possibilities confront each other, to create a new form and an abstract tension out of itself.“
