Black Floyd: A Sonic Dystopia with Yoyo Röhm and Kristof Hahn at NOME / Friday, 7.7.2023

NOME is pleased to announce Black Floyd: A Sonic Dystopia with Yoyo Röhm and Kristof Hahn. This is the fifth and final concert in the series Sounds and Traces, curated by Luciano Chessa.

Yoyo Röhm is a composer, arranger and multi-instrumentalist. He has made a name for himself through his work for artists such as Ben Becker, Peter Maffay, Carl Carlton, Richard Ruin, Mick Harvey, Swans, etc., and made a name for himself through his band “Martin Dean.” In addition to his work as a touring musician, he composes stage and film music and produces albums by other artists.

In his solo project Black Floyd – The Dark Side Of The Sun, Röhm dedicates himself to exploring new sonic hemispheres. Generated by a prepared transistor organ, effect pedals and analogue synthesizers create dark soundscapes that turn into moments of irritating beauty, only to recede again into darkness after a few bars. The musical genre can best be described as Sonic Dystopia, which is also the medical term for an out of place organ.

Yoyo Röhm will be accompanied by his longtime musical companion Kristof Hahn. The guitarist and lap steel player is known to many Berliners through his bands The Legendary Golden Vampires, The Nirvana Devils and Koolkings (with Alex Chilton), and his rock’n’roll noir ensemble Les Hommes Sauvages. He is internationally acclaimed for his role in the influential American Experimental rock band Swans. Hahn’s playing on the lap steel guitar is less rooted in tradition than a commitment to searching for new, unusual sounds. Drones and soundscapes merge into one thunderous sound or dissolve into ethereal melodies.
