Altes finanzamt will be the stage for one more evening of improvised music, this time with Ava Mendoza, Ignaz Schick and Andi Stecher.

Ava Mendoza is a guitar player based out of Brooklyn, NY.
She has been active for the last decade playing it´s own music, with different groups & writing for dance, theater and film. In any context she tries to bring expressivity, energy and a wide sonic range to the music.

Critics have called her “Oakland’s avant-jazz virtuoso” (Village Voice), “a versatile and virtuosic guitarist” (The San Francisco Film Society), and “a wizard on a semi-circle of effects pedals, but… equally adept with FX-less technique,” (A Blog Supreme/NPR Jazz).

She has toured throughout the U.S. and Europe and recorded or performed with a broad spectrum of musicians including singer Carla Bozulich (The Geraldine Fibbers, Evangelista), Fred Frith (Henry Cow, Art Bears, Massacre), Nels Cline (guitar of Wilco), members of ROVA saxophone quartet, popfolk band TuneYards, and more.

Ignaz Schick started as a saxophone player performing in free jazz and avant rock bands. At the same time he was getting obsessed with multitrack tape machines, record players and effect boxes and started experimenting with many different instruments and sound making devices.

During his career his interest and activities almost completely shifted towards live-electronics and after testing various instrumentations, he developed his own and unique electro-acoustic set-up which he calls “rotating surfaces”.
Since 1995 he works and lives in Berlin where he became an active and integral force of the “real time music” scene.

He is a member and founder of different ensembles, among others, Snake Figures Arkestra, Phosphor, Blind Snakes, Decollage, Perlonex, and collaborated with numerous international artists most notably Don Cherry and Charlemagne Palestine.
Furthermore he has been curating festivals of experimental music from the early 90s onwards (echtzeitmusiktage, FAM, Erase & Reset, Tim Shifts).
