Postponed: Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra & Tim Novikov at Berghain / Wednesday 18.03.2020

Putting the Bum Bum back into techno our favourite Orchestra – the Andromeda Mega Express – bring their unique style to Berghain this March. With an unpredictable style that oscilates between big band jazz, neo-classical and dada space funk AMEO truly are one of the most innovative and creative projects out there.

In collaboration with mixed media artist Tim Novikov, the Berlin-based 18-piece Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra presents a multidimensional, organic live experience that combines light and sound. »We’re approaching a type of perception in which there is no distance between the audience, the musicians and the artwork. The space does not only surround us – it’s something happening.«

Berlin-based Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra will present a multidimensional, organic live experience that combines visual and sonic elements. The orchestra’s first-ever audiovisual performance Neue Orchesterformen III/III is the result of a close collaboration with mixed media artist Tim Novikov. The ensemble’s debut Berghain performance not only sees AMEO add light objects, visuals and kinetic installations, but also marks a fundamental stylistic shift for the group. Following earlier collaborations, mixed media artist Tim Novikov (Minus Null Studio, Berlin) is responsible for the show’s visuals: he works with spatial elements (interactive light installations), kinetic sculptures, and live visuals.

A self-organized, independent group of likeminded individuals, AMEO is unlike any other orchestra: It’s a steadily working ensemble with a steady focus on experimentation. Comprised of 18 young, in-demand musicians hailing from various countries and musical backgrounds, its members have previously worked in constellations that couldn’t be more diverse – including Ensemble Intercontemporain, Tony Allen’s Afrobeat, Jazz-Legend Kenny Wheeler, Camerata Bern, and post-conceptual artist Cory Arcangel. Daniel Glatzel, the orchestra’s leader and saxophonist, has been the main composer over the last decade.

Musically, AMEO focuses more on ambiance and atmosphere, creating malleable, shape-shifting sonic realms, aiming to amalgamate acoustic and electronic elements. »We can juxtapose the orchestra-organism’s subtleties, colors and its warm sound with the pulse of Berghain, or we can turn both into something entirely new.« Responsible for the visual aspects of the Berghain show, frequent collaborator Tim Novikov (Minus Null Studio, Berlin) is going to add spatial elements (interactive light installations), kinetic sculptures, and live visuals. »Direct experiencing is at the core of our performance. Being radically open, embracing states of ambivalence and polar opposites. Making room for immediacy and poetry.«
