Alexander Rishaug and Andi Stecher at Spektrum Berlin / Wednesday, 09.03.2016

Spektrum presents an excellent Sound art night with Alexander Rishaug & Andi Stecher.

Alexander Rishaug is a sound artist and composer based in Oslo, Norway. His sound is melodic, melancholic and often quiet. Rishaug explores tones and textures through the use of electronics, field recordings and analog synths. Rishaug combines the intimate knowledge of his equipment with the curiousness of an amateur.

The result is always a detailed, rich and subtle sound, with a sharp focus on structure, rhythm and stretched out melodies. His sonic landscapes build and expand slowly, thereby moving the listener along an exploration of the experience of time. Rishaug was a part of the improv collective ARM together with Arne Borgan and Are Mokkelbost. Live they collaborated with artists such as: Håkon Kornstad, Martin Horntvedt, Toshimaru Nakamura and many more. As a solo artist he has collaborated and performed with: Espen Sommer Eide, Andrea Belfi (IT), Tore H. Bøe, Haco (JPN), , Erik Skodvin (Svarte Greiner) and Tape (SE). His visual collaborators include artists such as Marius Watz, Erich Berger, Pekka Stokke, HC GIlje, Andreas Paleologos, Ilan Katin and artist group Squidsoup.

Andi Stecher current focus lies on his solo compositions and live sets, usually a hybrid mix of polyrhythmic elements, field recordings, coupled with drones, heavy bass, synth lines and electroacoustic elements. For his live sets Stecher works with different techniques and tools (sidechaining / triggers / contact microphones / multichannel setups) to reach a natural and fluid combination of live played sound and digital + analog electronics. In addition to his solo works, he composes for dance and performance: his most recent collaborations and projects include Lydia Ainsworth (Arbutus), Doudou N’Diaye Rose, Ndagga Rhythm Force, Andrea Belfi (Miashma / Die Schachtel), Eliad Wagner, Mary Orcher & Your Government, Colin Hacklander, The Norman Conquest, Ignaz Schick, DuChamp, MuseRuole Festival. Andi Stechers first solo work “austreiben / antreiben” (June 2015) is a personal take on mask traditions / pre-Christian alpine traditions which are widespread all over Europe.
