The Dazed & Confused November art special is on sale October 9, 2008, headed up by a stunning 12-page visual collaboration between Grace Jones and Chris Cunningham, with the avant-garde film director digitally morphing the iconic performer to reveal the Devil Inside…

“It’s not fashion, it’s an anti-fashion shoot,” Jones tells Tim Noakes in the cover story. “He’s shooting me like art.”

Chris Cunningham’s inspiration came from his 2005 short film “Rubber Johnny”: ‘When I made the images for Rubber Johnny, I wanted to make some Nubian versions to accompany them. For me, Grace has the strongest iconography of any artist in music. She’s definitely the most inspiring person I’ve worked with so far.”

The contralto singer has the range to move into an almost-soprano mode in some songs. Jones secured a record deal with Island Records in 1977, which resulted in a string of dance-club hits and a large gay following.
