Posted on | June 1, 2012 | No Comments |
Straight outta LA/USA comes Amanda Brown’s prolific dance/not dance imprint 100% SILK, a boutique label that bounces glitz with ghetto and warped basement aesthetics with boogie antics.

The vibe will be good for this as 100% SILK hits the dance-floor, the odour of erotic jacking house will mingle with glitter ball good times and deep sweaty sonics will be slipstreamed within post-noise possibilities. Read more

D/B Recommended: Charalambides & Tonstartssbandht @ Marie Antoinette Berlin | Wednesday, 30.05.2012
Posted on | May 29, 2012 | No Comments |
Charalambides formed in Houston in 1991 amid a flock of fearlessly exploratory (and often drug-induced) rock bands, when Tom, Christina, and Kyle Silfer put down their beers and picked up their instruments.

From their 2006 & 2007 kranky releases A Vintage Burden & Likeness onwards, Charalambides has renewed their concentration on song-as-mantra (with intermittent guitar solos). Read more

D/B Recommended: Young Man @ Roter Salon Berlin | Saturday, 02.06.2012

Young Man is Colin Caulfield from Chicago. Regarding his music, “It’s enough to make you stop and say, “What is that?” It being the gorgeous melodies and lean, spellbound guitar lines of Colin Caulfield, an English/French lit major who’s about to change what it means to be a shape-shifting singer-songwriter in the YouTube age.

Just ask Bradford Cox. He knows. Why, just a year ago, the Deerhunter frontman stumbled upon Caulfield’s organ-grinding rendition of “Rainwater Cassette Exchange” and said it’s “fantastically superior to the original. It actually sent shivers up my spine, especially during the second verse.” Read more

D/B Recommended: Polymorphism #2: Hippos In Tanks Night w/ James Ferraro & Laurel Halo @ Berghain Berlin | Friday, 08.06.2012

CTM-Festival’s new and irregular series of events, POLYMORPHISM, introduces forward-thinking artists, labels and networks whose innovative programs and aesthetics relentlessly subvert – or simply transgress – the established parameters of musical scenes and genres.

Number 2 in the series is dedicated to Hippos in Tanks. With barely twenty releases since its launch a good two years ago, the LA label run by Barron Machat and Travis Woolsey, has rapidly made a name for itself as one of the most exiting labs around for unusual electronic music. Read more

D/B Recommended: Masha Qrella @ Ballhaus Ost Berlin | Tuesday, 29.05.2012
Posted on | May 29, 2012 | No Comments |
Compared to her other projects, Masha solo is mostly concerned with amplifying those aspects of her musical output that don’t originate in the dynamics of a band (which is vital in her other projects), but make audible a feeling of the private.

Here memories, hopes, disappointments, joy and regret are translated into songs, which sometimes are concrete enough to be intersubjectively comprehensible, but often point poetically into the private of the singing voice and cannot be decoded directly, only be felt with intuitively. Read more

D/B Recommended: Elfin Saddle & Golden Diskó Ship @ .HBC Berlin | Wednesday, 30.05.2012
Posted on | May 29, 2012 | No Comments |
Mi Honda and Jordan McKenzie began Elfin Saddle after moving east across Canada from Vancouver Island to Montreal. Their take on acoustic folk is charged with myth, mysticism, anarchism, and a love of wilderness.

The alertness and drive of their luminous songs actually sounds electrified, but it’s not — they’ve prefigured a time in the post-apocalyptic future, after the machines of civilization have ground to a halt and the remaining humans will have to make their music without plugging in. Read more

The band from Manchester scarcley need an introduction. Arguably the most important British new wave band of the 80s, their lasting influence on the evolution of modern pop music is indisputable.

The band’s 1983 hit “Blue Monday”, the best-selling 12-inch single of all time, is a prime example of how the band revolutionised the pop landscape. Read more

D/B Presents: The Spits, Hunx and his Punx & The Black Jaspers @ Festsaal Kreuzberg Berlin | Wednesday, 23.05.2012
Posted on | May 23, 2012 | No Comments |
The Spits are already as ingrained in modern punk music as possible, yet still manage to devour the rip-offs and influence the youth of today without even looking like they are trying.

Going strong now for over fifteenyears, smashing the windows and tearing down the walls of our minds everytime they roll through town, these truly vicious visionaries have cooked punk down to its most powerful base form, crawling like Neanderthals through the muck, and creating a flaming trail of hits that´ll take quite a fit of dementia to ever forget. Moonface is not a band. Moonface is just plain half-old Spencer Krug, in any solo or collaborative projects he’s involved in from now until whenever.

In early 2010 the first Moonface EP was released on Jagjaguwar. It was called Dreamland EP: Marimba and Shit-Drums, and sounds as the title suggests. Read more
