THE HUM is an exploratory club night traveling into different temporalities, phenomena and politics of sound, dance, and club culture. A work in progress.
THE HUM is calling for versatile contributions in the fields of sound and dance and related knowledge. Be it a lecture, a performance, a dj set, a workshop, a digital or physical artefact.
June (Suction Records / June Records) is recording artist, disc jockey and live act born in Rhodes, Greece in the 80s while currently residing in Berlin. He is devoted to the use of the pre-MIDI analogue interface of synthesisers, drum machines and sequencers for the creation of electronic music.
He is running his own label “June Records”, that focuses on underground electronic music since 2010, along with Trenton Chase. Recently he released an LP on Solvent’s Suction Records that was recorded and composed live, without the use of MIDI, to keep the tradition, that began with the electronic music pioneers of the 1970s and early 1980s, alive.
For over a decade now Phuong Dan is both resident and host at legendary St. Pauli underground venue Golden Pudel Club in Hamburg. Since seven years he runs the club-night Gatto Musculoso, with guests like italian pioneer Beppe Loda, Veronica Vasicka, Daniel Wang, Tolouse Low Trax, Lovefingers, Traxx, Vidal Benjamin, Sean Canty or Ron Morelli.
He is spinning an unique eclectic mix from contemporary underground techno, minimal synth, post-punk, new pop and EBM, the electronic side of krautrock, and rare disco, to flashy left field experimental stuff – he couldn’t care less for narrow minded ones who restrict themself to a genre or a decade, he is exploring the whole world of music on search for the groove of the night. Naturally, it should be on vinyl. Since january 2015 berlin community radio streams the opening hours of his Gatto Musculoso.
Last but not least THE HUM host djs Vinilette and Ultraviolett top off the bill.
