Combining analogue synth mastery, algorithmic composition, multichannel sonic explorations, and forays into esoteric music research, this Prelude concert offers a taste ahead of the next CTM festival edition, bringing back several repeat festival collaborators in combinations that highlight a love of all things analogue and digital.

Legendary American electronic music innovator Suzanne Ciani played a pivotal role in the development of electronic music in the U.S. since the late 1960s, creating sounds for Atari, pinball machines, commercials, and Stanford University’s Artificial Intelligence Lab.

This early work recently gained greater attention thanks to releases on Andy Votel’s Finders Keepers Records. In this showcase, Ciani joins forces with esoteric musical-research duo Neotantrik, made up of Votel himself, as well as Sean Canty of Demdike Stare.

A second special collaboration will also appear tonight which unites Keith Fullerton Whitman – a musician based in Cambridge with a deep interest in musique concrète, systems- and process-music, using an array of often custom built hardware modular synthesis equipment and studio technology, and Mark Fell.

Fell is a multidisciplinary artist based in Sheffield that remains best known for his work together with Mat Steel in the duo SND, as well as his seminal solo work, “Multistability”.

The duo’s unique collaboration pushes forth the limits of multichannel sound through live improvisation with hybrid analogue/digital setups.
