LABOUR, this is Farahnaz Hatam and Colin Hacklander, create acoustic choreographies and immersive multidisciplinary works.

At HAU Hebbel am Ufer, the Berlin-based duo’s compositions have already been experienced in the works of Ariel Efraim Ashbel and caner teker. “sungazing (رضایت)” distinct from its iteration at Kraftwerk Berlin in November 2022, notably features the two dancers Cassie Augusta Jørgensen and Daniil Simkin, the video work of Evelyn Bencivcova, Enes Güç, Zeynep Schilling, and the light design by MFO.

In this interwoven relationship, the elements shift from temporally aligned to temporally disjunct, transforming HAU2 into a multi-sensory experiential space. While finding inspiration in Zoroastrianism, an Iranian religion thousands of years old, and its rituals revolving around fire and the sun. “sungazing” dives further into the possibilities within club culture’s hedonism to political action and civil disobedience.

With a background in molecular biology, Farahnaz Hatam is a sound artist, composer and specialist DJ who works primarily with SuperCollider, a platform for audio synthesis and algorithmic composition. Colin Hacklander is an avant-garde percussionist, drummer and composer, with a background in post-tonal theory and electronic music.
