reiheM presents: Billy Bao at King Georg / Saturday, 10.02.2018

It is the first time that Billy Bao are coming to Cologne. The Basque band project from Bilbao (Spain) have been active since 2004 but only played once in Germany. In 2015, they put out their most recent release, the double album “Lagos Sessions”, a collaborative project with Nigerian artists and musicians such as Emeka Ogboh and Mark Ido. Billy Boa’s mix of noise and punk with spoken word, field recordings, dub, afrobeat, jazz and hip-hop elements is in the best sense of the word “experimental”.

The band around the noise-activist ‘Mattin’ will confront the audience at the concert in Cologne with two drum sets, guitar, laptop and an energetic voice, exciting sound collages and surprising breaks or discursive insertions. The band’s practice of spontaneous changes or irritations of the concert format are also part of their range of topics, such as cultural appropriation, post-colonialism, globalization, the commodification of music in late capitalism and the politics of noise.

With or without ear protection, listening is highly recommended – “no way to fail” at King Georg on Carnival Saturday.
