The Sister from New Zealand , via Hong-Kong, Clementine and Valentine Nixon have been creating their own music with the name of “Purple Pilgrims” since few years ago. With the effects of avant-garde sounds which they have experienced in Hong Kong underground music scene, they make unique – ethereal sounds which leads you to your depths of consciousness. After working together with artists like Gary War , and also succeeding their world live tour including US tour with Ariel Pink, on this March, they have finally released their debut album “Eternal Delight” on US label, Not Not Fun.

1.What is the biggest inspiration for your music?
People.
2. How and when did you get into making music?
We’d both flirted with writing songs from really young ages, but only started really making music together in 2011 after being asked to play a show at HSP gallery in Christchurch, NZ – we agreed first, then started writing songs for a set, it was self-perpetuating from there.
3. What are 5 of your favourite albums of all time?
This changes with every mood! But these albums have all effected us hugely at some point, and continue to effect..

“Butterfly Lovers” – Guzheng Concerto (technically not an album, but we think there’s so much going on in this piece so we count)

4. What do you associate with Berlin?
Big gray skies, icy electronics, concrete brutalism and good orange tea-cake.
5. What’s your favourite place in your town?
Any one of the beach, we have been pretty spoilt for crystal waters around here.
6. If there was no music in the world, what would you do instead?
Probably be quite depressed.. most likely we’d both focus more on dance –
of course that would become increasingly difficult without music..
7. What was the last record/music you bought?
A hand ful of Japanese 7″ of 70’s/80’s hits, for the wonderful artwork.
8. Who would you most like to collaborate with?
I think all our dream collaborators are dead.. but we like making music with new people, we’re open to offers!
9. What was your best gig(as performer or spectator)?
Of our own performances.. a gig we played in a smoke-filled aband oned industrial estate in Kowloon, Hong Kong.
As a spectator, that’s too hard! Fleetwood Mac playing ‘Tusk’ was a highlight.
10.How important is technology to your creative process?
It’s so important, from the gear we use to the later stages of mixing etc..
Technology in music is both endlessly fascinating and overwhelmingly frustrating to us in equal parts!
11. Do you have siblings and how do they feel about your career?
We have no other siblings. If we did we’d recruit them – playing live would be a lot easier with another set of hand s.
