On December the 5th MONKEYTOWN RECORDS are proud to present the MONKEYTOWN FEST at the Berlin TEMPODROM. The plans have been on the drawing board for sometime, and now the perfect time has come. It’s no wonder, with the label turning five we have all the more reasons to celebrate with a massive bash. Expect the unexpected. This special venue will play host to an equally unique event. Not the usual club and DJ party, but rather a concert night of a different kind. Moderat are Modeselektor and Apparat. Hardly anybody has brought electronic music from Berlin to the farthest flung corners of the world with more passion and enthusiasm than these two heavyweights.

MODERAT will play the final show of their successful 2014 tour at the MONKEYTOWN FEST. MODERAT’s second album “II“ (released on MONKEYTOWN RECORDS) combines the melodic contours of APPARAT with the stark power of MODESELEKTOR’s pulsating basslines and thumping drum loops. They have charmed audiences Europe wide playing packed concert halls full of happy punters.

THE NOTWIST will join MODERAT on stage; these so-called old concert hands are always very much anticipated. Despite coming from different musical angles THE NOTWIST and MODERAT are maybe the most successful indie live-acts on the international market at the moment. The concept behind this evening will make the differences between electronic and instrumental music disappear.

While their early records moved through heavy metal into dark indie rock, their recent efforts for which they’ve received the most attention have been very strongly influenced by the electronica scene, along with the other groups on the record label Morr Music. The Notwist are Markus Acher (guitar/vocals), Michael Acher (bass), Andi Haberl (drums), and Martin Gretschmann aka Console (programming).

How many internationally influential pop acts has Germany thrown into the mix? Kraftwerk, of course, followed by Can and the other Krautrock pioneers – Neu! and Cluster, Tangerine Dream and Faust; after that, Einsturzende Neubauten, perhaps. And in the mid-1990s, Mouse on Mars joined this select group, quickly earning international recognition for their unique blend of concept, experiment and pop. Rare is the festival of electronic or independent music that hasn’t welcomed them to the stage, and there are few producers of edgy, intelligent pop music who do not cite Mouse on Mars as a reference. They are feted as rock stars across Japan and North America, and for the past twenty years they have been packing clubs – and even classical concert halls in European metropolises.Mouse on Mars are a musical phenomenon.

We are happy to also welcome SIRIUSMO to the MONKEYTOWN FEST with one of his rare live sets. Primarily, Siriusmo aka Moritz Friedrich is a real survivalist, played in a band for many years and is a fan of old keyboards. As a professional artist (painting, illustration, graffiti) Siriusmo lives off temporary jobs and even does construction work now and then.

The London trio DARK SKY will present their debut album “imagine“ for the first time live in Berlin. Far more than a simple club act, they fit perfectly into this line-up. Matt Benyayer, Thomas Edwards and Carlo Anderson together make up the London based production trio Dark Sky. Having met at college, Dark Sky formed in 2009 out of a mutual love for the ever evolving London electronic music scene, a love that the trio have always reflected through not only their DJ sets but also their productions.

August 2014 will see the release of Dark Sky’s long awaited debut album on parent label of the aforementioned 50 Weapons; Monkeytown Records. Founded by Modeselektor’s Gernot and Szarzy, the globe trotting duo have been long term Dark Sky supporters, and subsequently their label forms the perfect home for Dark Sky’s percussion driven, soul laced debut album. With plans formulating for a full live show tour and plenty more to reveal in the mean time, 2014 is set to be a big year for Dark Sky.

All in all this is a simply breathtaking lineup and Friday nights dont get much better than this!
