Lola Marsh

Lola Marsh is an indie – folk band formed by Gil Land au and Yael Shoshana Cohen. The two met after studying music and they q uickly began to write, record and perform together. Mati Gilad (Bass), Rami Osservaser (Guitar, Piano), Dekel Dvir (Drums) joined them shortly after. Their music combines deep, warm, nostalgic vocals, heart-on-the-sleeve-lyrics and Middle Eastern guitar melodies. Following massive performances in leading festivals and after attracting media praise, they signed with the leading indie label Anova Music. Their debut album will be released in Spring 2014 followed by performances in European summer festivals including the prestigious Pohoda festival in Slovakia, and the Primavera festival in Barcelona.

What is the biggest inspiration for your music?
Movies and people

How and when did you get into making music?
Yaeli: at age 12, I saw the hippie chick from the series “fame”. She was so cool with her guitar. That day I bought my first guitar and started playing and singing.
Gil: at age 11, I heard my big brother playing “smells like teen spirit” on the guitar.

What are your 5 favourite albums of all time?
Pink Floyd – Animals

What do you associate with Berlin?
There’s a really cool and magical tea store. Unfortunately we don’t really remember where it is. Hope to find it again.

What’s your favourite place in your town?
Dizingof Square in Tel Aviv. Every tuesday and friday, there is a great second hand market. Yaeli gets most of her outfits for our shows there.

If there was no music in the world, what would you do instead?
Yaeli: a Clown
Gil: a bank owner

What was the last record you bought?
Vinyl of the moody blues- A Question of Balance

Who would you most like to collaborate with?
Julie Andrews

What was your best gig (as performer or spectator)?
As Performers –  last year at Pohoda Festival In Slovakia. The crowd was amazing, and everything about this festival was perfect.

How important is technology to your creative process?
Technology is super important to our creative process, but we think that when you write a song, it needs to work by itself, when played only on acoustic guitar or piano.

Do you have siblings and how do they feel about your career?
Both of us have brothers and sisters. They are really proud of us and  attend to all of our shows.
