Kontraklang #6 w/ Zafraan Ensemble + Nevin Aladag at Heimathafen / Wednesday, 16.09.2015

The Berlin-based Zafraan Ensemble is a young and versatile new music ensemble known for its exceptionally high musical standards and innovative concert formats, as reflected in numerous prizes from renowned international competitions, and in collaborations with the most significant composers of our time.

The ten-member ensemble was founded primarily by graduates of the Hans Eisler conservatory (Berlin), where it won the first prize for interpretation on several occasions and worked with conductors such as Manuel Nawri, André de Ridder, Premil Petrovic and Adrian Pavlov. Since its beginning in 2008 Zafraan has developed a rich repertoire which they have performed in Germany, France, Spain, Switzerland, and China.

Video artist Nevin Aladağ was born in 1972 in Van, Turkey. She grew up in Stuttgart, studied sculpture at the Academy of the Arts in Munich and moved to Berlin in 2002. Her short films, performances and installations deal with moments of cultural translation on and across social and political borders. With a particular interest in sound and music, Aladağ often examines urban and natural environments.

The audiovisual program developed between Zafraan and Aladağ is entitled “City Language” and combines new works by Berlin-based composers such as Zeynep Gedizlioğlu, Samir Odeh-Tamimi, and Martin Hiendl, with multiple video projections.
