30 Years of Klangwerkstatt Festival at Kunstquartier Bethanien / Friday, 06.11.2020

The Klangwerkstatt Berlin turns 30! Since its beginning in 1990, it has presented around 1,600 works, almost half of which were world premieres. Chamber music and solo recitals, internationally renowned ensembles and children’s orchestras, composers of primary school age and authors who are writing music history. Scenes, performances and improvisations, instruments and computers, loudspeakers and video projections. Music with images and theatre, with dance and literature.

The anniversary is also an occasion to look back at our own history. New pieces will be juxtaposed with older works from the thirty-year history of the Klangwerkstatt and enter into an exchange. An exhibition accompanying the festival, discussion events, artist talks and concert moderations provide insights into historical and current works and projects of the Klangwerkstatt Berlin and invite the audience to exchange ideas.

The festival features concerts with open scores and instrumentations, short lectures and audience discussions, a youth composition workshop and a format that blends art and everyday life, concert and discourse, stage and audience. The concerts of children and youth, discussions and lunchtime concerts are free.
