Kiezsalon w/ Dent May & Koenraad Ecker at Musikbrauerei Prenzlauer Berg / Wednesday, 28.02.2018

Kiezsalon returns to the new year with self-described hotel bar lounge singer Dent May and Belgian sound-sculptor Koenraad Ecker. Dent May – aspiring daytime TV talk show host in his spare time – has been charming his way into the hearts of music fans since the release of his debut album The Good Feeling Music of Dent May & His Magnificent Ukulele on Animal Collective’s Paw Tracks label in 2009.

The Mississippi-born, Los Angeles-based songwriter, performer, and Dolly Parton enthusiast has since released two more acclaimed records, Do Things (2012) and Warm Blanket (2013), dropped the holiday smash “I’ll Be Stoned For Christmas”, and played hundreds of shows from Shanghai to Chicago. His latest album, Across the Multiverse, is an interstellar voyage of mythic proportions.

For nearly a decade, Dent May has crafted bright, homemade pop songs that pull from the past—disco, soft-rock, country-western, psychedelia, soul, funk—all with light-hearted wit and his distinct croon. Across The Multiverse, his fourth full-length album, finds the Mississippi native embracing a hi-fi sound with the sheen of his new surroundings in Los Angeles.

Koenraad Ecker is a composer and performer of electro-acoustic music and creator of multidisciplinary performances. His sound-work revolves around the tactility of sound, spatial audio and its scenographic possibilities, cyclical rhythms, a non-traditional use of foley techniques, alternative tuning
systems, the narrative techniques of editing and the paradoxical qualities of silence. The principal themes in his works are : the relationship between the body & sound, transformation, the uncanny, and the exploration of community, empathy & alienation in a performance space.

He has received commissions from ZKM, Göteborgs Opera, Bozar Electronic Arts Festival, Zero Visibility and has presented his work in venues ranging from freezing squats to plush opera houses in Europe, the Americas and Asia.
