J.A.W w/ Kamasi Washington at Astra Kulturhaus / Tuesday, 16.08.2016

After a jumpacked & sold out J.A.W last november at the Young African Art Market aka YAAM, the man behind one of the most acclaimed & interesting albums of 2015 is back in Germany this summer with two exclusive shows. The J.A.W Family teams up with the excellent Hamburg-based & progressive Festival Überjazz for the Berlin show of the Brainfeeder saxophonist.

Kamasi is a LA born & raised saxophone player & composer who´s first album on Flying Lotus Label Brainfeeder – The Epic – is one of the most acclaimed albums of last year. Topping most of the Charts 2015.
The LA based saxophonist is responsible for much of the arrangement on Kendrick’s peerless To Pimp A Butterfly, but now he’s striking out on his own. His debut album is a 172-minute opus featuring a 32-piece orchestra and a 20-person choir, fittingly titled The Epic. Over the years, Kamasi has performed and recorded with many of his musical heroes from various genres, including McCoy Tyner, Freddie Hubbard, George Duke, Lauryn Hill, Mos Def, Quincy Jones, Stanley Clark, Harvey Mason or Chaka Khan.

This event is presented by Digital in Berlin. Check out our Facebook page to win tickets and Cds.
