On February 15, a very rare one-off event featuring acclaimed US artists Tim Barnes and Jeph Jerman in collaboration with original FAUST members Jean-herve Peron and Zappi. The group will perform at the Berlin venue WEST GERMANY. Also joining the ensemble will be upright bass player Mike Majkowski, and contrabass clarinet player Chris Heenan.

Across a dozen years, the duo of Jerman and Barnes has offered powerful minimal music rooted in a shared dedication to the creative act of listening. Jerman is a veteran of the creative music scenes in Denver and Seattle, and in more recent years has been thoroughly investigating the sonic possibilities of the desert Southwest where he lives and works. Tim Barnes’s resume as a percussionist, engineer, and curator is studded with all-star collaborators including Tony Conrad, Sonic Youth, Ken Vandermark (who appears here as a guest), Royal Trux, and Tower Recordings. Versatile Ambience is their second record in as many years, making this one of the most productive periods in the duo’s history.

Mike Majkowski is a double bassist / composer born in sydney, australia. currently based in berlin. Heworks as a soloist + with a number of collaborative projects. His work primarily focuses on repetitive structures and their mutations, relationships between stillness and pulse,as well as the spectral qualities of resonating frequencies.

Chris Heenan lives in Berlin and is an active composer/ performer and organizer of experimental music. He performs on alto saxophone, contrabass clarinet, and analog synthesizer in contexts ranging from solo to large groups and in various ongoing projects. He uses these instruments to investigate new musical forms, noise, and improvisation both in his solo work and in collaboration with composers and performers such as actors, musicians, dancers, and visual artists. Heenan has developed a formidable solo voice on his wind instruments, particularly with the contrabass clarinet where he uses extended techniques, often incorporating multiphonics with surprising results, to reveal the subtleties inherent to the instrument.

Faust formed in 1971 in Wümme, the group was originally composed of Werner “Zappi” Diermaier, Hans Joachim Irmler, Arnulf Meifert, Jean-Hervé Péron and the rest is history.
