Because we prefer to celebrate legends alive than six feet under, another true master will make his Berlin debut at J.A.W. The king of boogie, the man behind a countless number of soul & disco classics, Mr.Leroy Burgess. Ask producers such as Master At Work, Kerri Chandler, Theo Parrish, Larry Heard, DJ Spinna or Motor City Drum Ensemble what they think about the man. Leroy burgess is reponsible for so many timeless disco/ boogie Anthem.A propos MCDE, he will co-present the night with the J.A.W Family and be behind the dj booth for the occasion too, together with London phenomenon Red Greg, Chicago reference Darryn Jones for his Berlin debut & yours truly.
As a solo artist, Burgess had numerous club hits in the 1970s and 1980s including “Heartbreaker”, “Stranger” and “You Got That Something”. Burgess chose to move on, joining the band Aleem, which had hits with “Confusion”, “Release Yourself”, and “Hooked On Your Love”. A 1991 release by the band titled “Running After You” received favourable reviews on release. He also continued to work with producer Adams in various studio groups. In addition to the hits he had with Aleem, Burgess was featured vocalist with Adams’ groups Bumble Bee Unlimited, Logg, Inner Life (which also featured Jocelyn Brown), The Universal Robot Band, the Peter Jacques Band, Dazzle and M.O.D.E., (with whom he recorded “Heaven”), and did lead vocals on “Much Too Much” by Phreek.
Motor City Drum Ensemble is a unique kind of ensemble in that it consists of just one man : Simultaneously retro and futuristic German House pioneer Danilo Plessow . He was born in 1985 in a small town in rural southern germany and soon moved to Stuttgart , the world’s cradle of the automobile and Germany’s ‘Motor City’ (w. Mercedes, Porsche, Bosch headquarters). Hence, his best known artist moniker ‘MCDE’ obviously is a reference as well to his home-town as to his first love in music, the Soul, Jazz and Techno sounds of Detroit. The ‘Drum Ensemble’ is a link to his collection of classic drum machines, technical backbone of his accomplished and renowned electronic music.
