Heizraum concert series 9 w/ 2/5 BZ, Andrea Neumann & more @ ZK/U

Heizraum is an event series focused on sound, experimental music and performance art taking place at ZK/U in Moabit. For the 9th edition, Heizraum will present live performances by 2/5 BZ aka Serhat Köksal, Andrea Neumann, Nuno da luz, Alex Head, Emilia Kurywicz, Reagan Truax, and a Dj set by Horst Matrix.

Turkish artist Serhat Köksal (born 1968) founded his multimedia project 2/5 BZ in Istanbul in 1986, continuing to develop it since in different formats, from video collage to tapes, CD-ROMs, and audio CDs to photocopied booklets and live performances.

Köksal’s performances are opulent montages of traditional music, experimental electronic sounds, and images from television and B-movies, brought together in a Dadaistic confrontation of pop, orientalism, kitsch, comics, and folklore.

Beyond exoticism or ethnocentricity, and with the help of his own recordings, samples, and found footage, he investigates cultural clichés, remakes, and copy cultures, as well as their impact on the economic and political situation of individuals, thus contributing to a critical and humorous reuse of mass culture.

Andrea Neumann began her musical career as a pianist but since 1996 is primarily active as improviser and composer in the areas of experimental and new music. In the process of exploring the piano for new sound possibilities, she has reduced the instrument to strings, resonance board and metal frame.

With the help of electronics to manipulate and amplify the sounds, she has developed numerous new playing techniques, sounds, and ways of preparing the dismantled instrument. Because the original inside piano is very heavy, a piano builder (Bernd Bittmann, Berlin) constructed a new and lighter one for her.

She has worked intensively in the crossover area between composition and improvisation, and in the field between electronic and handmade sounds, with Berlin musicians such as Annette Krebs, Ignaz Schick, Axel Dörner, Robin Hayward and Burkhard Beins. She has composed for inside piano for interdisciplinary projects including film, dance, performance, etc.
