Artemisia is the new album from Foundling, the project of Erin Lang (harp, vocals) Samuel Hall (percussion) Peter Hanson (sax, flute) Rieko Okuda (synth) and Constantine Karlis (drums). For this special concert, scent-artist Ines Lechleitner created companion scents accompany the music. Artemisia unfurls from the final moment of their previous album Equilibria whose serene tropical nights culminate with a gently imploring request to ‘believe for a while’.
Artemisia begins in this delicate place, weaving a serene fantasy landscape over a shadowy underworld. It marks a departure for Foundling, being primarily instrumental, with two spoken word pieces, the album moves into a more experimental, ambient and improvised realm. Foundling (Berlin) will lead you through the earthy forest landscapes of their forthcoming album Artemisia, accompanied by the specially created companion scents designed by scent artist Ines Lechleitner.
With soft and delicate vocals, tuned percussion saxophone and vintage synths, Foundling are making serene music that floats through the eras touching the exotica of the 60s, film music of the 40s and avant guard and new age music from the 70s and 80s.
Ines Lechleitner is an artist working with all the senses in many disciplines. She creates scents which are truly site-, moment-, and person-specific. She has created a companion scent for ‘Artemisia’ to accompany and guide through the undergrowth of this special evening..
“Foundling are a Berlin-based experimental outfit led by Canadian singer Erin Lang, and their new album Equilibria is an intriguing mix of dream pop, junkyard minimalism and glittery ECM jazz, pitched somewhere between Julia Holter and David Sylvian.” — The Guardian
