Falko Teichmann

Born on the east side in 1973, Falko Teichmann has been promoting the future with GOLDMUND Concerts & Festivals in his home town Berlin for a decade and has performed in various band s such as the notorious Crack-up Collective or The Sighs. But he can also be found behind the decks since the mid-90s, from downbeat beginnings in the darker corners of the lounge scene to the multi faceted musical fairground Berlin has become. A climate which caused his sets to open up to the dancefloor, forging long lasting alliances with places like the Circus/Bar 25 and Salon Zur Wilden Renate, exploring slo-motion disco and cosmic space funk. Recent DJ excursions added ethnodelic instrumental hip-hop, weird coast electronica, outernational vibes and some soulful bass music to the equation, creating pleasure zones off the four-to-the-floor grid.

I’m alive
This is the future
I’m not dreaming

What is the biggest inspiration for your music?
My own life and and the splendour of the archives.

How and when did you get into making music?
By accident.

Love – Forever Changes
Nina Simone – To Love Somebody
Van Morrison – St. Dominic’s Preview (especially side 2)
Baader Meinhof – Baader Meinhof
Joe Henderson with Alice Coltrane – The Elements

What do you associate with Berlin?

What’s your favourite place in your town?
The playground where I spend time with my daughter.

If there was no music in the world, what would you do instead?
Read and be silent (no songs, no sing along).

What was the last record you bought?
Scott Key – The Forest and the Sea (Lion Productions Re-Issue)

Who would you most like to collaborate with?
The people I already collaborate with.

What was your best gig (as performer or spectator)?
As curator (and spectator) the last four band s on the closing night of Goldmund Festival 2008: Jeremy Smoking Jacket, The One Ensemble, Carla Bozulich’s Evangelista, Wildbirds & Peacedrums.
As performer: the last one I’ve played.

How important is technology to your creative process?
For the writing it is not very important, text edit is fine but if not available pen and paper will do. For the recording process it is important if it helps to translate the vision.
