ART WEEK: Modernity at Haubentaucher / Saturday, 17.09.2016

We are people of modernity. There are endless possibilities to express this.

Modernity, in this context, refers to the urbanisation of the industrial buildings of the past. The original purpose of the buildings are forgotten and cast aside, leaving a vacuum and a space for creativity. These spaces are rich with potential and provide artists with a stage.

The way in which these ideas are toyed with deeply affects the current design and purpose of the buildings themselves. Even the physically unchanging structure itself seems to ebb and flow with the fluctuating current uses. Kalma Visuals

From the past’s Reichbahnausbesserungwerk, to today’s well known Urban Pool Club, Haubentaucher is a current example for transformation of urban spaces in Berlin as an Urban Pioneer. For this year’s Berlin Art Week, the idea of transformation is taken one step further and the venue is transformed into a temporary gallery space with the theme of ‘Modernity – Transformation of Urban Spaces’.
