Andi Haberl meets Richard Koch at Donau115 / Friday, 25.01.2019

Certainly one of the best drummers around, Andi Haberl returns to Donau115 this January. On this occasion the percussionist will be joined by fellow AMEO bandmate Richard Koch who’s trumpet will provide the melodies to Haberl’s rhythms.

Known as the drummer for The Notwist, Alien Ensemble and Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra and many other bands besides, SUN is a chance for Haberl to showcase some of his own compositions. Coming from a jazz background, he has a technical mastery the likes of which is rarely seen. But this is coupled with a true playfulness and love of experimentation which is what really defines Haberl’s style.

Andi will be joined by bandmates Jörg Hochapfel (piano), Johannes Schleiermacher (flute, sax, synth), Kalle Zeier (banjo, guitar, harmonium), Karl Ivar Refseth (vibraphone, glockenspiel) and Matthias Pichler (doublebass). Don’t miss this chance to see some of our most talented musicians performing in a truly intimate location in the Neukölln neighbourhood.

ANDI HABERL DRUMS Andi Haberl grew up in Holzhausen, a small village in the South of Munich and started to play drums at the age of 8. During secondary school, he formed the Jazz quartet maxbab, together with school mates Bene Jahnel (p), Benny Schäfer (b) and Max von Mosch (sax). Still existing, the group released 6 records, developed their own voice and fascinated people on festivals like Montreal Jazz or Jazz Baltica. In 2003, Andi moved to Berlin to attend the Jazz Institute Berlin, in order to study drums and composition with John Hollenbeck.

During his years of study he played with “Marsmobil”, “Enders Room”, “Jersey” and Masha Qrella. In 2006 he joined the German Indie-band The Notwist and started to work with the “Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra”. In 2007 he played concerts with Bobby Hutcherson, Myron Walden, Johannes Enders, Wolfgang Muthspiel, Konstantin Wecker, Arlo Guthrie, Charlie Mariano and Nils Wogram. From 2008 till now he has been touring around the globe with The Notwist. From time to time, Andi also works with Kurt Rosenwinkel on his new project and plays with the Meyer Brothers, Daniel Glatzel or Richard Koch and Johannes Schleiermacher.
