This festival presents the grand Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra in its full spectrum. The band members come from all sorts of cultures and musical directions and now there’s finally a possibility to hear all those influences and backgrounds in one location.
All over Stattbad stage and costume designer Soo-Eun Lee is going to transform swimming-pools, boiler-rooms and shower-cabinets into lively and wonderfully bizarre settings.
The orchestra will group up in small ensembles playing music ranging from Baroque (Biber, Purcell), Jazz (Mingus, Monk), Free Improv with live-painting, Classical (Debussy, Schönberg), handmade Sound-Installations, New Music (Berio, Cage), Indie-Folk to Minimal Music. Furthermore, guests will include a wide and funky array of groups associated with AMEO: Woima Collective, Solistenensemble Kaleidoskop, Hunger, AndreasMatthiasPichler and Ritsche & Zast.
You might have seen them playing with wonderful German band The Notwist, but the Orchestra with their truly unique sound are an unmissable spectacle in their own right.

Whoever claims to have heard anything like this before is lying. This is a 20 piece orchestra, led by a 25 year old Berlin based composer, set off a fire-work of of energy, musicality and fresh ideas. Daniel Glatzel, the man behind the force of nature known as the ANDROMEDA MEGA EXPRESS ORCHESTRA, juggles genres, styles and music-historical references in a way that’s enough to make you dizzy.

Jazz is just a ballpark figure here. We’re talking about everything from minimal music and diverse scores from film, romanticism, modern classical and Bartok right through to Zappa. Glatzel also cites as musical influences computer games, cartoons, shabby never-ending advertisement shows and elevators in expensive hotels.
Firm D/B favourites the Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra make a most welcome Berlin live appearance at the Stattbad Wedding in July. The music of AMEO is so rich in direct or indirect quotes that you really don’t know where to begin in attempting to describe then, and any attempt ist actually futile. Just listen!
