Alessandra Eramo and Marta Zapparoli at Spektrum Berlin / Friday, 18.03.2016

In their live performance, sound artists Alessandra Eramo and Marta Zapparoli utilise mostly recordings of unperceivable sounds from unconventional environments, extended vocal techniques, movement, electronic devices and portable tape recorders. Surrounded by the audience, the two performers move between fixed audio stations and several bases distributed in the space, equipped with analogue tape recorders and microphones. The audience is immersed in the sound and focused on the physical movement of the performers.

Alessandra Eramo is a vocalist, sound artist and composer who works primarily with voice and noise. She was trained in classical singing, piano and music theory since an early age, studied intermedial arts, experimental music and performance in Milan, Stuttgart and Venice. She creates performances, site-specific installation, participative actions in public space, video and drawings/scores, investigating the tension between vocality and writing, the phonetics, the physicality and trance-like states in singing. Her artistic production focuses on the juxtaposition between pleasure and disturbance, fragility and power, memory and the present, public space and intimacy. She has performed and exhibited widely in Europe, Turkey, USA and Canada, such as at: FLUSSI Media Arts Festival Avellino 2015, PACT Zollverein Essen, Museum FLUXUS+ Potsdam, Liverpool Biennial 2012, Roulette New York, Padiglione Italia nel Mondo – 54th Venice Biennale. Since 2015 she is a member of the group Errant Bodies – Sound Art Space in Berlin, where she lives and works.

Marta Zapparoli is an experimental sound artist, improviser, performer and researcher. She works and lives in Berlin from 2007. Her work mainly consists of strongly narrative sonic pieces that she builds using a wide variety of recording techniques, devices and selfmade microphones . She is interested on the boundaries and relations between real sound world, vibration sound, noise pollution and inaudible sound. She builds strongly narrative, imaginative sonic pieces live through improvisation with real-time tape manipulation. She has performed at festivals all over Europa, Turkey, Norway, Sweden and U.S.A. In 2006 she received the MOVIN-UP Award for her field recording project An Audio Portrait of Berlin.
