Since the late 1960s, Akira Sakata has been a constant figure in jazz and creative music scenes as an ever evolving and adventurous, multi-instrumentalist, and member of classic groups such as Yamashita Yosuke Trio, from 1972 till 1979, and Wha-ha-ha plus many of his own, like the Sakata Akira mii. He has recorded with Chris Cosey, Peter Brotzmann in Last Exit, DJ Krush, Yoshimio, and others.

Since the late 60s, Sakata has been a constant figure in jazz and creative music scenes as an adventurous multi-instrumentalist, and member of Yamashita Yosuke Trio and many under his own lead. He played and recorded with Bill Laswell, Hijokaidan and is active with Jim O’Rourke.

It is with immense pleasure that we present legendary Japanese free jazz saxophonist Akira Sakata at the Morphine Raum, in 2 separate concerts. At 6 PM a solo saxophone and voice for the hardcore lovers of Sakata. At 8:00 PM, we come back to the Raum for a stunning second concert with Akira Sakata and Kazuhisa Uchihashi. The duo on Saxophone and Guitar will bring Japanese free jazz and noise into a powerful and wild combination.

Born in Osaka, Japan in 1959, Kazuhisa Uchihashi plays a huge variety of music, having a distinctive musical voice in rock, jazz and improvised music. He composes widely for film, theatre and dance, including 30 years of work with the Japanese theatre group Ishinha. Recently he composed 4 theatre pieces of Tosiki Okada at the Münchner Kammerspiele.

He has worked worldwide with musicians including Hans Reichel, Fred Frith, Ned Rothenberg, Wayne Horvitz, Roger Turner, Sainkho Namtchylak,Shelley Hirsch and Christian Marclay and others. He invited to hundreds of music festivals all over the world from early 90’s. He organised the legendary Japanese power trio Altered States, active for over 30 years, which also worked inside Otomo Yshihide’s Ground Zero in the 1990s.
