Titanic at Kantine am Berghain / Tuesday, 2.9.2025

Titanic is a collaborative project by Venezuelan guitarist I la Católica (Héctor Tosta) and Guatemalan cellist Mabe Fratti.

The music is a mixture of chamber-jazz, art-pop, and in some songs a little of what’s called ‘post-minimalism’ portraying some sort of mischievous elegance reflecting the complex and very specific color palette of Tosta’s harmonic and compositional choices.

The project is marked by some improvisational energy, cinematic depth, expansive jazz-inspired arrangements, and a compelling interplay between beauty and tension. Titanic crafts immersive, unclassifiable music that feels joyous and unrestrained.

Mabe Fratti’s sensibility is the triumph of experimentation over technical dominion of an instrument. The experimentation of sound with feelings, with existence itself, with an open heart, letting herself to be transformed by what she lives and hears. This is what has led her from Guatemala to Mexico City.

From the creation of pop songs to free improvisation, from the academy to noise, from collaborations in ensembles and duos to the profound personal journey that is reflected in her solo works.
