Schwingende Systeme is not only the title of a series of works by Michael Maierhof—it is also the fundamental subject of his artistic research, which has been ongoing for decades.
With his work on sound complexes and music that is deliberately not organized by pitch, composer Michael Maierhof (born 1956) has produced a rich and extensive body of work with a very unique sound language. In this concert, you will experience a carefully curated selection of these works, commented on and framed by works by long-time companions, performed by experts in his music.
The concert will feature four selected works from Maierhof’s extensive oeuvre, composed over the past twenty years, offering a concise insight into the richness and diversity of his compositional sound language. These works will be performed by musicians with whom Maierhof has, in some cases, collaborated for decades, and for whom several of the pieces were originally written. His intensive exploration of sound complexes demands an exceptional understanding of the instruments involved, both from the composer and the performers, and the works are marked by a deep and sustained collaborative process.
