Roomer is a Berlin-based band weaving noise, melody, and memory into guitar-driven songs that blur the line between emotional immediacy and sonic experimentation. Formed by long-time collaborators Ronja Schößler, Ludwig Wandinger, and Luka Aron, the trio brings together distinct voices from across Europe’s avant-garde, folk, and electronic scenes.
Their debut album Leaving It All to Chance (Squama) captures the haunting pull of their live shows, pairing diaristic lyrics with spectral textures and sudden bursts of catharsis. The record positioned them as a singular presence within Berlin’s experimental landscape, balancing intimacy with expansive sound.
Their new single Written By marks the first new music since the record and hints at the band’s next chapter. Recorded between rehearsal space and studio, the track leans further into production while remaining raw and immediate. Its origin lies in a fleeting first take: after Ludwig introduced the main chords, he and Ronja recorded before the moment could cool. The vocal that anchors the track is a one-take improvisation, with lyrics and melody unfolding in real time, shaped by instinct rather than revision. A live reverb dub was printed on the spot, and the recording was left deliberately bare, preserving the clarity and emotional directness of its first impulse.
Lyrically, Written By moves through symbolic, dreamlike imagery, evoking the sensation of drifting between different versions of oneself. As Ronja describes it, the song reflects a quiet, constant transformation—less a rupture than a gradual passing of time that often goes unnoticed.
Roomer is the meeting point of three distinct creative forces, united through long-standing friendships and years of collaboration across free improvisation, ethereal folk, and ambient electronica. In their hands, the rock band format becomes a flexible framework where these worlds collide, combining vulnerability, texture, and sonic detail.
After their debut London show at the ICA and an appearance at ESNS 2026, Roomer now return for a hometown show in Berlin. Support comes from Clarice, the minimalist and experimental folk project of Emma Weber. For this occasion, she will be joined by Finn Kraft.
