Psicotrópicos Festival returns in July for its fifth edition in Berlin with a carefully curated selection of Brazilian artists who are shaping the sound of today at a very special new location, the Neue Nationalgalerie.
Hermeto Pascoal, the 90-year-old iconic Brazilian composer and multi-instrumentalist, began his career in the 1950s and is globally renowned for his groundbreaking work with groups like Quarteto Novo and his own ensemble, Grupo. Known as the “Sorcerer of Sounds” for his inventive use of unconventional instruments and experimental techniques, he has composed over 10,000 pieces and earned multiple accolades, including two Latin Grammys.
Jota.pê is a rising star in Brazilian music, blending MPB, manguebeat, and influences like Jorge Ben and Caetano Veloso. His second album Se Meu Peito Fosse o Mundo (2024), featuring Xênia França and Gilsons, surpassed 2.5 million streams and earned multiple Latin Grammy and Multishow Award nominations. A standout on The Voice Brasil, he has toured Europe three times and also performs in the Grammy-nominated duo ÀVUÀ with Bruna Black.
Jéssica Gaspar is a multi-artist who blends poetry, music, and dance to celebrate Afro-Brazilian ancestry, love, and resistance. With a powerful and velvety voice, she moves fluidly between MPB and afrohouse, as heard in her breakout 2024 single Brisa—a global hit with over 2 million Spotify plays. Her music and presence have led to collaborations with electronic music DJs worldwide and performances at major stages in Brazil.
