Plasmatron & Moebius Strips w/ Felix Kubin, Josephin Böttger, Hanna Hartman and Tim Story at Wasserspeicher / 11—13.7.2025

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Villa Aurora and in remembrance of the 10th anniversary of the passing of famous musician and composer Dieter Moebius, the large and small water reservoirs in Berlin’s Prenzlauer Berg will transform for three days into extraordinary sound spaces for experimental electronic music.

In his multichannel installation Plasmatron, Hamburg-based sound artist Felix Kubin transforms the Großer Wasserspeicher (Great Water Reservoir) into a sonic high-voltage laboratory straight out of a science fiction narrative. Drawing on experimental recordings from the high-voltage labs of HSU Hamburg and ETH Zurich, he crafts a vivid soundscape of crackling overhead power lines, artificial lightning strikes and humming electric fields. Sharp pulses and modulated waves animate the reservoir’s rich acoustic environment, creating shifting sonic perceptions as visitors move through its concentrically arranged chambers.

Extending the installation into live experience, Felix Kubin joins forces with video artist Josephin Böttger for a series of audiovisual performances. Böttger navigates the structure’s spiral corridors with a mobile projection unit, orchestrating a choreographed interplay of light and architecture.

The Kleiner Wasserspeicher will host the European premiere of Moebius Strips, an audio installation created by Tim Story. This project is a musical homage to electronic music pioneer Dieter Moebius, incorporating hundreds of Moebius’s unique sounds, which have been reimagined by Story and an impressive lineup of international artists – including Geoff Barrow (Portishead), Sarah Davachi, Jean-Benoît Dunckel (Air), Felix Kubin, Hans-Joachim Roedelius, and Michael Rother. The sound installation is free of charge.

The installation will also include a new composition by sound artist Hanna Hartman, a Villa Aurora fellow in 2010.
