The twenty-sixth edition of Organ Sequences invites listeners to experience the pipe organ as a vibrant space for sonic exploration. Featuring two contemporary compositions and two improvisational duos, this chapter reimagines the organ as an instrument of transformation and experimentation.
Violinist Biliana Voutchkova and performance artist Dylan Kerr weave an intimate and deeply embodied dialogue, blending sound, gesture, and duration. Voutchkova’s versatile work spans contemporary music, interdisciplinary performance, and teaching, while Kerr draws from ritual and site-specific practice, situated between sound art and conceptual music. Together, they create nuanced soundscapes where every note and movement holds meaning.
Lithuanian artists Gailė Griciūtė and Arturas Bumšteinas present Stand-by for Minna (2023), a meditative piece for organ and electronics exploring resonance, silence, and memory. Bumšteinas’ research-based practice revolves around archives and ritual sound, crafting delicate sonic environments that invite reflection.
Also featured is Cunctipotens Genitor (2022), composed by Armenian-Russian Arman Gushchyan and performed by composer and interpreter ゴマサン (Romain C. Bertheau). This work unfolds through a slow, liturgical progression rich with harmonic layers and spatial depth. ゴマサン’s diverse practice spans early music, harsh noise, and experimental electronics, offering a unique perspective on the organ’s sonic potential.
Finally, the duo of Shun Momose and Wanqian Lin explores harmonics and silence through modified instruments, feedback systems, and subtle sound installations. Momose, active in Berlin’s Echtzeitmusik scene, and Lin, a Taiwanese pianist and sound artist known for her work with abstraction, voice, and space, create performances that balance minimalism and expressive intensity, drawing listeners into delicate auditory landscapes.
