Japanese noise terrorists Melt Banana return to Berlin for a special live show at Neue Zukunft in November.
MELT-BANANA hails from Tokyo, Japan. MELT-BANANA’s intense sound has long been an institution—for fans and critics alike, as well as for musicians who aren’t put off by complex structures and arrangements. With numerous singles and tracks on compilations, 12½ albums, and concerts all over the world, MELT-BANANA have become an integral part of music history thanks to their hard-hitting, experimental, and unique sound.
It’s therefore no surprise that many MELT-BANANA fans are musicians themselves, who recognize and appreciate the complexity and high caliber of MxBx. MELT-BANANA consists of vocalist **Yasuko Onuki (“Yako”)** and guitarist **Ichiro Agata (“Agata”)**. Agata’s guitar sound is often described as a mix of turntables, synthesizers, and samplers hidden among six guitar strings—creating that unmistakable “Hypertension Sound.”
MELT-BANANA concerts leave a lasting impression: likable musicians, a magical atmosphere, enormous volume, surprising effects within the songs, and an almost perfect command of their instruments. Grindcore riffs, loaded with unexpected effects, sharp shouts, and massive intensity. Within seconds, you’re reminded of art, noise, punk, metal, Riot Grrrl, grindcore, pop culture, or the soundtrack to an exciting movie.
Are MELT-BANANA a noise band? A punk band? Techno-pop? Ultimately, this question is irrelevant—because MELT-BANANA cannot be categorized. The band stands for innovation and progress. Their sound is in a league of its own and is considered to have shaped the style of numerous bands across the broad spectrum of “noise” and “rock.”
“You cannot just listen to Melt-Banana; you must experience Melt-Banana” (John Peel)
