Following the release of his new album Seeds of the Unkown on Fun in the Church, Max Turner returns to Berlin for an intimate live show at Salon Wellenmaschine in Kreuzberg this May.
Max Turner is a songwriter and vocalist known for co-founding the internationally acclaimed group Puppetmastaz with his cousin Paul Pm and Patric Catani. Known for his collaborations
in groups such as Meteorites with Marcus Rossknecht he started in alt-rap and electronica but went on to study Carnatic singing in India before returning to stages with his own blend of digital folk.
Turner co-founded Puppetmastaz in 1996 alongside bandleader Paul Affeld (also known as Paul PM, his cousin) and other collaborators, blending rap, funk, and electronica with puppet-themed performances. The group, featuring members from Germany, the United States, and Canada, has released several studio albums, including Creature Funk (2004), Creature Shock Radio (2006), The Takeover (2008), Revolve and Step Up! (2012), Keep Yo Animal! (2016), Sweet Sugar Rush! (2019), and Welcome to the Zoo (2023), with Turner contributing to every project as a vocalist, songwriter, and producer. Puppetmastaz gained international acclaim for their innovative live shows using hand puppets and has collaborated with artists such as Chilly Gonzales and Mocky.
Beyond Puppetmastaz, Turner has pursued a solo career, releasing his debut album The Purple Pro in 2006 on the Metabooty label, which showcases his skills in hip hop production and lyricism. He has also issued several singles and EPs, including Infinite 4×4 (Folklore Rhythm) (2008), Oranges (2008), and Fistful of Leaves (2017), often handling composition, arrangement, mixing, and mastering himself. Additionally, Turner operates under aliases like Google Premier and has contributed to various projects, including founding the label Revolution Records. As of 2023, based in Pomaia, Italy, he continues to produce and perform independently while maintaining ties to Puppetmastaz.
