Jazzexzess returns to House of Music in Friedrichshain in this month for another first class double bill featuring Rufus D and Yarns Ensemble.
The Swiss trio Rufus D presents their new album “total impasse”: post-rock soundscapes full of surprises, where experimental beats meet guitar riffs and sampled analog sounds. The rhythm shifts, transforms, pushes boundaries, and eventually dissolves into hovering, imploding, and fading away.
The Yarns Ensemble is a collective initiated by drummer and producer Lukas Akintaya (Adeolu). Approaching sound as a spiritual and communal practice – through free improvisation, they meld memory, rhythm, and resonance into an intense experience of ritual, healing, and belonging.
It’s a circle, a ritual, a weaving of frequencies. Initiated by Berlin- based drummer, composer, and creative producer Lukas Akintaya also known as Adeolu, this collective brings together African and Afro-diasporic musicians for a practice of sonic remembering and community- based storytelling. Featuring Gugulethu Duma (South Africa Dumama) on voice and FX, Cassie Kinoshi on saxophone and FX, and Tagara Mhizha on bass and FX, the ensemble draws its pulse from a shared belief: music is spirit work.
