Ten years of JAW Family at various location / Tuesday, 08.11 – Sunday, 20.11.2016

The brainchild of three French music lovers, the event series and music-loving collective J.A.W was conceived in Paris back in 2005. Its principle ideology, to represent soul music in all its variations, in a live setting regardless of its roots (jazz, disco, electronic, Brazilian, gospel, hip-hop etc.) Over the years, the J.A.W family played host to renowned talents Larry Heard, Moodymann, Theo Parrish, Marcellus Pittman, Omar S. and Sadar Bahar throughout some of the best Parisian venues, including the late Tryptique, Rex Club and Djoon. From 2009 onwards, the J.A.W brought their soulful practices to Berlin, hosting both live acts and DJs throughout various urban arenas, including the late Festsaal Kreuzberg, Horst, Neue Heimat, Prince Charles, Astra, YAAM and Silent Green.

With refined knowledge and immaculate programming, Berlin punters to date have been treated to such illustrious acts as Robert Glasper, Kamasi Washington, Hiatus Kaiyote, Taylor McFerrin, Gogo Penguin and Makaya Mccraven, alongside the likes of Floating Points, Theo Parrish, Four Tet, Gilles Peterson, Hunee, Jeremy Underground, Dego 2000Black, Volcov, Waajeed, Budgie and Red Greg, to name but a few.

In 2015, J.A.W celebrated his 10th anniversary and, one year on, will celebrate this prodigious occasion by throwing a series of special events throughout November in both Paris and Berlin. These will feature many new faces alongside more familiar ones that have influenced the French collective throughout the years. The J.A.W Family Reunion will kick-off in Berlin on November 8th at YAAM (the Young African Art Market) with a double bill featuring Blue Note’s the Robert Glasper Experiment and New Orleans trumpet player Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah.

It will then make a stop at Bi Nuu on the 11th with fellow Blue Note jazz troupe Gogo Penguin. The proceeding week’s schedule includes four shows in four nights, beginning at Parisian venue La Machine on the 17th, with Brownswood’s latest signing Yussef Kamaal – the new live project by Henry Wu- alongside Detroit icon and long time family friend Theo Parrish, playing throughout the night. From the 18th to the 20th, J.A.W will take over Berlin’s Prince Charles with a bunch of live acts and DJs acts including Floating Points, Theo Parrish, Motor City Drum Ensemble, Hunee, Red Greg, Gilles Peterson, Sadar Bahar, The Pyramids, Carlos Niño, Rabih Beaini or Jameszoo.
