Holly Schlott

After the music school in Oelsnitz / V and the MHS “Hanns Eisler” Berlin 1974-80, profile career began in 1978 as a musician in the fusion band “Fusion” at the age of 19. 1985 followed the founding of the legendary wind quartet “FUN HORNS” (over 40 years), as well as the V. Schlott Quartet, REEDS-Solo project and many more. As a guest soloist, S/he on tour with the Danish band “New Jungle Orchestra” a.m.o. (Europe. USA, Canada, Australia). Since 1995 S/he has toured with the great Greek composer M. Theodorakis and the Greek singer Maria Farantouri worldwide. During this period 1995-2010 S/he was also involved in several CD recordings. Since 1997 S/he has also been a permanent member of the band by the American soul + jazz singer Jocelyn B Smith and since 2006 also as her musical director, producer and arranger. since 2009 S/he created “FAVO” On over 100 CDs, either as a sideman or as a creative composer and musician, he/she has now deposited his brand as a saxophonist / flutist. …published a playbook for saxophone “SAXOFUN” at AMA Verlag, has been a cultural ambassador on behalf of the Goethe Institute on all continents. In 2018 Holly Schlott released her solo CD “two spirits”, in which he / she spoke about your transgender identity for the first time in German jazz.

1. What is the biggest inspiration for your music?
Transporting other people to another state of mind.

2. How and when did you start making music?
As a child at the age of 8 / as a professional at 18.

4. What do you associate with Berlin?

At least 50 years of my life –
the historic fall of the Berlin Wall
my artistic and personal center of life

5. What is your favorite place in your city?
My home / and walks on the green outskirts of the city with lots of little rivers and bridges

6. If there were no music in the world, what would you do instead?
I would probably have taken up my father’s profession / carpenter

8. Who would you most like to work with?
People who understand the value of music and are serious about passing it on

9. What was your best performance (as an artist or audience member)?
My first concert in Rio de Janeiro with my band Fun Horns (without a rhythm section!) in front of 3,000 enthusiastic people.

10. How important is technology for your creative process?
Yes, very important, although I like to use a balance between acoustic, natural music (live) and modern technologies for my work as a music producer.

11. What can we expect from your concert at the rejazz festival?
A blend of acoustic and electronic elements / original compositions exclusively interpreted for “Unique” by inspired musicians from the current, younger European jazz scene + lots of joy in spontaneous music-making!
